Lyon is not only a beautiful place to visit but it is France’s second most popular cities. The spectacular French city was well-known for its silk trade, which paid for the attractive Renaissance buildings in Lyon. But today Lyon is a more industrialised which shows the typical working French city.

Major Attractions in Lyon

Lyon ’s historic town is located underneath of Fourvière and is full of beautiful narrow streets. Cathédrale St-Jean is just beyond the funicular station and the Vieux Lyon métro, from here you can see the remains of the Roman town. Musée Gallo-Romain et Parc Archéologique de Fourvière is where you can find the excavated theatres which are spectacular to look at. One of the main attractions in Lyon is the 16 th Century Hôtel Paterin. The Basilique de Fourvière has beautiful views from the top. There are many different museums that you can visit in Lyon including Musée d’Art Contemporain, Musée Historique de Lyon and Musée de la Marionnette.

Place to go and visit in Lyon

If you are wanting to explore the around Lyon then Lyon is the best pace to do so. Southwest of Lyon you will find the Monts du Lyonnais. The land is covered in forests and cherry orchards, with a few beautiful villages. Two of the most finest medieval villages are Pérouges and Crémieu are free of tourists. As well as this an enjoyable and amusing steam train departs from L’Arbresle during the summer.

Leisure Options in Lyon

If you want to take a break from the hectic city then head down to Parc de la Tête d’Or which is calm and relaxing, it is just north. There are many ponds, rose gardens botanical gardens, a small zoo and lots of amusements for children.

Getting there and away to Lyon

High-speed TGV trains run to Lyon which takes about 2 hours from Paris and about 3 hours from Lille.

A variety of buses arrive from many European cities, including Paris and Geneva.

The Lyon-Saint-Exupéry International Airport is a very busy airport as it receives several transatlantic flights a week, as well as these daily flights from various European destinations.

If you are travelling by car from Nice then you can head west along the E1/A7 towards Aix-En-Provence, then North West towards Avignon. Try avoiding the city and keep on going north along the same route into Lyon. If travelling from Paris then head southeast along the A8/E1 into Lyon.
