The magnificent seaside resort of Deauville is located in Normandy, on the Côte Fleurie, which is opposite Trouville. This is a location for the rich and the famous and well-known for its luxury. Deauville is home to a splendid racecourse, attractive casinos and a variety of luxury hotels.

Major Attractions in Deauville

A popular pastime here is betting on the horses or even at the Casino. The Deauville, La Touques racecourses was built in 1864 at the instigation of the Duke of Morny; the duke was a very big horse enthusiast. During the summer in the racecourse international polo teams come and play in the polo pitches. There are free guided tours of the racecourse on Sunday afternoons (racing days only), at 15:00, 16:00 and 17:00. The Casino first opened in 19864, but then was demolished in 1895. It was then replaced in 1912 by a structure designed by architect Georges Wybo; his inspiration came from the 18 th Century buildings. The Casino’s façade had been moved forward by 6 m, letting a large gallery to be created and the buildings is now open on the seaward side. This Casino if the third largest in France.

Things to Do and See in Deauville

If you want to just relax Trouville is just 15 kms down the coast. This beautiful resort is a good place to get away from, but it still attracts a number of many visitors with its bright bars and restaurants where you can feast on a variety of seafood. The Aquarium and Nautical Centre is also popular attractions. The Casino, Le Louisiane, itself has a variety of gaming rooms, slot machines, concerts, festivals and exhibitions to you entertained.

You can get away from the crowds by enjoying a stroll along the Planches which is a mile-long pathway which runs along the back of the spectacular beach. Deauville is only about luxury, and when you can her you can spoil yourself in the sports and cure facilities and private swimming huts that adjoin the beach.

Getting there and away to Deauville

You can catch a flight into Paris’ Charles de Gaulle or Orly airports and change to Deauville by car, train or bus.

If your driving from Paris, you can take the A13 west to Pont L’Evêque, then follow the N177 east to Deauville.

There are about 10 daily rail connections to Deauville from Paris Gare St-Lazare which takes 2 hours. The train stations are located between Trouville and Deauville and serviced by taxis.

Bus Verts du Calvados serves the Normandy coast from Caen to Le Havre.
