Travel Guide to Annecy

Annecy is located at the foot of the French Alps, as well as this it is 35 kms south of Geneva. The resort is not only attractive but it is the best place to experience the Haute-Savoie district. Annecy has some spectacular views of the mountains and lakes near by. It is known to be a hectic urban centre. In the summer the lakefront attract the majority of the tourists.

Getting There and Away to Annecy

Near by to Annecy there is a small airport, which is in the village of Meythet. It receives flights from Paris on Air Lid.

By car from Paris, you can take the A6 southeast to Beaune, and then join with the A6/N6 south to Mâcon-Nord, then follow A40 southeast to Seyssel, linking with N508 going southeast to Annecy.

On the other hand you can take the bus or train from Geneva, Grenoble, Lyon or even Paris.

Major Attraction in Annecy

One of the major attractions in Annecy is Château de Montrottier. It is a wonderful 13 th Century castle with beautiful views of the spectacular Mont Blanc. Inside this castle it contains a small museum which displays tapestries, pottery and armour. On the other hand the Musée Château d’Annecy consists of regional artefacts not forgetting Alpine furniture, religious arts, oil paintings and modern works. Travelling through the town is an experience which won’t be forgotten. The two rivers located inn the town flow into the lakes and then through this delightful medieval town. On the hill beside the town is a church, a calming bell concert at sunset every day in the summer. This is what attracts many admires, many people climb up the hill to take in the spectacular view while the bells chime.

Around and About in Annecy

If you want to explore the countryside the Annecy is the best pace to do this. You can either go and explore the town yourself or arrange for a tour from the town. A popular daytrip is to catch the train through the Alps to Chamonix. Known though the whole of France for the owner Marc Veyrat-Durebexs exclusive cuisine, the Auberge de l’Eridan can be seen at the edge of the lake in the village of Veyrier-Du-Lac which is just 1.5 kms from Annecy. One of the most popular attractions for the summer is the lake, which is well-known for bathing in. Not only this there is many different picnic spots, campsites and walking trails to discover. Geneva, in Switzerland, is just 35kms away and boasts a number of good museums, including: the Red Cross and Red Crescent Museum; the critically acclaimed Museum of Art and History; the Horology (clocks) Museum; and Voltaire Museum.

Annecys town centre is a very lively and easy place to get by. Everything you want is right there and places are easy to find. Everything to have a good time is located right here including, bars, cafés, street dances, fairs and even carnivals. Weather in Annecy

Annecy is situated 30 miles from Mont Blanc and as a result the winter months can be quite cold. The average temperature between December to February is 2-6C and it often snows. May to September sees an average temperature of 15-20C but it can be rainy in the autumn.
