Malaysia Airports
Located in Southeast Asia, Malaysia occupies part of the island of Borneo as well as the Malaysian peninsular to the south of Thailand. Malaysia has grown into one of the powerhouses of Southeast Asia and it boasts an excellent transport network. The country is easy to travel around and the people are friendly, with the population being a multicultural mix of Malay, Indian, Chinese and European peoples.
The most visited destinations here are in peninsular Malaysia, where the capital is located and the majority of the big attractions reside. Kuala Lumpur is an interesting and well-ordered capital, with some massive monuments including the Petronas Towers as well as some historical treasures.
The islands of Langkawi and Penang off the west coast have some great beaches and shopping, while the Cameron Highlands in the northern part of the country are a must-see. The state of Sabah on Borneo Island features Mount Kinabalu, the highest peak in Southeast Asia.
Kuala Lumpur International Airport is one of Southeast Asia's major air hubs and flights arrive here from all over the world. There is just one terminal building handling both international and domestic flights and although the airport is a long way from the city, transport links are excellent, with a combination of trains, buses, shuttles, minivans, taxis and limos offering quick travel to the city.
Reasonably priced trains run all over the country and connect Malaysia with both Thailand in the north and Singapore in the south. The bus system in Malaysia is also efficient, but the most convenient way to travel around the country is by plane. The advent of the budget airline AirAsia has made air travel to and within Malaysia accessible.
