Samos - Aristarchos of Samos International Airport (SMI) information

The airport is situated on the island's south coast, 4kms west of the village of Pythagorio and 17kms southwest of the main town of Vathy. Samos Island itself, one of Greece's most popular tourist destinations, is located in the Aegean Sea just 3kms off the coast of Turkey. Samos Aristarchos of Samos International Airport has a new, modern terminal which handles all domestic, international and charter flights. There are 10 check-in desks and 9 gates. Flights to Athens depart four times daily, plus there are twice-weekly connections to other destinations within Greece such as Thessaloniki and Rhodes. International flights arrive primarily from the UK, northern and central Europe, especially during the summer months when tourism is at its peak.

The airport's car park, located directly opposite the terminal, has a capacity of 300 cars and 15 buses.

Getting to and from Samos

If travelling by car, the island's main road leads northeast to Vathy town centre (about a 20-minute drive) and west to the small towns of Pyrgos and Neo Karlovasi. No bus service is available from the airport, but taxis are plentiful. They depart from outside the terminal and charge about €15 for the trip into Vathy.

Facilities are very limited. The airport has no banking or currency exchange services; neither is there a post office nor a first-aid station. However, there is a Hellenic Duty-Free Shop, plus two luncheonettes offering light refreshments. Several travel agencies and tour operators have booths at the airport to assist arriving passengers with further travel plans.
