Kos Island - Hippocrates International Airport (KGS) information
Kos Island International Airport is located 27kms west of the island's major town, Kos. The airport is the sixth busiest in all of Greece, with annual passenger traffic amounting to about 2 million. The island itself is situated a few kilometres off the coast of Turkey, in the Aegean Sea. The airport has two terminals, one for arrivals and one for departures, which are open 24 hours a day during the peak tourist season of April through October. Olympic Airways offers frequent connections with Athens. International flights arrive primarily from the UK, Netherlands, Germany and the Middle East.
Airport parking at Kos
The airport's car park, located just outside the terminal buildings, can accommodate up to 180 vehicles.
Getting to and from Kos
The airport is situated not far from the picturesque village of Kardamena. A few kilometres away is the island's main road which leads eastward to the town of Kos, about a 30-minute drive, and westward to Kefalos near the island's western tip. KTEL buses stop at the giant roundabout outside the airport gates, and run to Kos, Kardamena and Kefalos. Olympic Airways minibuses also travel three times a day to Kos and other key destinations. Private taxis are available as well.
Amenities at Kos Island - Hippocrates International Airport
Considering the airport's size, amenities are surprisingly few. There are no banking or postal facilities; however the airport does have a health care centre and a police station. Shopping options are limited to the airport's duty-free shop. A single restaurant offers food and drinks. Six travel agencies and/or tour operators maintain desks in the terminal buildings, to assist arriving passengers with further travel plans.
