Cologne/Bonn International Airport (CGN) Information

Introduction

Located 15kms southeast of Cologne (Koln), this airport also serves the former West German capital city Bonn, about 25kms to the south. More than 6 million travellers per year pass through the airport, making it one of the country's busiest. There are two terminal buildings, the newer of which was completed in 2000. Forty airlines operate out of the airport (including several no-frills carriers), serving destinations in Germany as well as other parts of Europe and the world. A free shuttle bus runs between the arrivals levels of both terminals.

Airport parking at Cologne/Bonn International Airport

There are nearly 10,000 parking spaces available in three multi-storey car parks (P1, P2 and P3), plus a small car park Nord suitable for large vehicles. Immediately outside the terminal buildings are car parks P1 and P2, which charge rates of €1 for 30 minutes, and a daily rate of €14. Car park P3, which is suitable for long-term parking, is linked to the terminals by a free shuttle bus. Rates here are €1 per hour, €9 per day and €25 per week. Car park P2 also offers spaces patrolled by security for €25 per day.

Getting to and from Cologne/Bonn International Airport

The airport was designed as a drive-in airport; a spur of the A59 motorway leads directly to the terminals. The A59 offers easy access by car to both Cologne and Bonn. The airport railway station is situated between the terminal buildings. S-Bahn trains run about every 30 minutes to Cologne's Hauptbahnhof (central station) and other destinations in the city. Travel time is 11 minutes. A high-speed train takes passengers to and from Frankfurt in less than an hour. Bus service is available to and from Cologne (journey time, 20 minutes) and Bonn (journey time, 35 minutes). Buses depart every 15 to 30 minutes during peak hours. There is also bus service to Dusseldorf (a 1-hour journey) leaving from Terminal 2. Taxis are readily available outside both terminals. The fare for the 15-minute trip to Cologne city centre is €25; to Bonn, €35-€40.
