Dominican Republic Airports
Located in the middle of the Caribbean Sea, the Dominican Republic is the largest island in the region after Cuba. It shares an island with Haiti and getting here from Europe or North America is straightforward. There are several international airports spread around the country and you can fly between them with Air Santo Domingo. Don't forget to check out our Caribbean Travel Guide.
The Dominican Republic is known for its superb beaches and masses of tourists arrive here every year by air and cruise ship. The best beaches are located on the eastern shores and boat trips go from here to nearby islands where the diving and snorkelling is spectacular.
The capital of the Dominican Republic is Santo Domingo, a treasure featuring old and elaborate colonial architecture. The fortresses, palaces and churches here date back hundreds of years and can be seen on a typical walking tour. Santiago in the north is Dominican's second city and also worth a visit, while the interior of the country is one of diverse landscapes.
While not the busiest airport in the Dominican Republic, La Romana International Airport receives millions of passengers every year who come to sample the island's resorts. Located in the southeast of the country, typical flight times to the airport are about 2 hours from Miami, 3 hours from New York and about 6 or 7 hours from London. Major carriers serving La Romana Airport include American Airlines, US Airways, Thomas Cook, Delta and Continental.
Most people heading to La Romana Airport are booked into hotels and resorts on the east coast and can make use of the hotel shuttles, although local buses and taxis run services to other parts of the country.
