Belgium Airports
Bordered by Holland, Germany, Luxembourg and France, Belgium is a tiny country about the same size as the Netherlands. Despite its size, it is loaded with historical cities and natural attractions, such as the skiable mountains in the southeast of the country that put many of its larger European neighbour's slopes to shame. Belgium is also synonymous with chocolate and beer, and its people are some of the friendliest and unassuming of all of Europe. Don't forget to check out our Belgium Travel Guide.
Brussels is without a doubt the single biggest attraction of this small country and it boasts amazing museums and galleries, not to mention the swathe of pubs and restaurants along rue des Bouchers. North of Brussels, Antwerp is known for its architectural splendours including many mansions, castles and the largest Gothic church in the country.
Medieval Bruges is pedestrianised and is probably the most laid back of the big three Belgian cities, while the beautiful Belgian countryside should also feature on any visit, no matter how short. Belgium's public transport network is second to none and includes fast rail access to all major cities in and around Belgium as well as excellent roads. There are seven major airports in Belgium providing convenient access to all parts of the country.
Brussels International Airport is the country's main air hub, which also acts as a major hub for European travel. There are numerous flights to nearby European destinations as well as to transatlantic cities and just one terminal handles the many millions of passengers that pass through the metal detectors here each year. The airport is extremely modern and features every conceivable service including banking facilities and duty-free shopping.
Road access to Brussels and beyond is excellent and there is also a railway station at the airport, while express buses and shuttles run to the city and its major hotels. Taxis are available from outside the terminal 24 hours a day.
