Antigua Airport

A small island in the middle of the Caribbean, Antigua attracts tourists with its West Indian charm and hundreds of beaches. The island has a long and colourful maritime history, with the English having establishing a base here during the French Wars. St Johns is the capital and known for its duty-free shopping and colonial architecture, while English Harbour holds particular interest for historians. For beaches in Antigua, Dickenson and Runaway bays are the creme de la creme, with their lovely, fine white sand that is backed by resorts. In the west of the island is Deep Bay, where you will find superb diving and some quality resorts.

There are only two ways to get to Antigua, by plane or by boat, with VC Bird International Airport being the island's only airport. Located just outside St Johns, VC Bird is also the gateway to Barbuda. Scheduled and charter flights arrive and depart from here to both European and North American destinations, with the majority of air traffic coming from the US.

VC Bird has one terminal that caters for both international and domestic departures. The only domestic route offered from the airport is to Barbuda. The airport provides all modern conveniences, such as bureau de change and ATM facilities as well as a restaurant, bar and duty-free shops. The airport also comes with facilities for the disabled, such as accessible lifts and ramps; however, there are no business facilities.

If you have booked a hotel, you will usually be given the option of booking a hotel shuttle from the airport. No public transportation operates from the airport, but taxis and private cars are available to take you anywhere on the island. If you hire a car, Antigua Sugar Factory and Airport roads lead to St John's.
